BACKGROUND

Marketing itself as “the home that prayer built,” Prairie Manor Nursing Home is a privately owned 100-bed facility in Pine Prairie, LA providing intermediate and skilled nursing care. Focusing on a quality patient experience, they describe their 120 employees as having the privilege of working in their residents’ home.

CHALLENGES

A manual system often led to problems with visibility and accountability between nursing and medical staff: finding whether someone had been given a flu shot, or had a DNR order, often required searching records by hand. Supervisors had to be on-site to monitor patient care issues, and physicians needed to call to get reports.

SOLUTION

Prairie Manor became a pilot site for AHT’s new web-based Work Center patient information portal, which was deployed among nursing staff and physicians. Work Center has also been used to communicate patient progress for those that need care with both Prairie Manor and their local acute-care hospital. According to charge nurse Cody Kordish, “The transition to Work Center was simple and very smooth, and after the implementation we had clinical staff using it on their iPad devices right away.”
